Competition Details
A fishing rod, a humble instrument to lure in the catch of the day, or perhaps a makeshift weapon in an epic battle between the forces of good and evil.
A policeman, his badge of honour gleaming handsomely in the blaring sun as he marches with steady determination towards your car. You feel ill. Your license has expired and you were going at 61 in a 60 mile zone. The outcome? Unknown.
The familiar call of ‘who’s your macha’ the defining cathphrase of your favorite drinking buddy. A source of constant amusement or bemusement?
What exactly is this?
The Triple Movie Challenge is, a short film competition brought to you by the Multimedia Society of HELP University College. It is open to all university students in Malaysia who like us, have an interest in watching, creating, and criticizing films.Registration begins on the 22nd of July and ends on the 12th of August. Submission of videos close on the 22nd of August.
The challenge
The challenge is to produce a five to eight minute long film featuring:
A specific character (a policeman)
A line (who’s your macha?)
A prop (a fishing rod)
Upon registration, all participating teams will be given a genre for their film and from then on, they are given the liberty to let their imaginations run wild. Just remember that there is a fine line between satire and being politically incorrect.
The genres that will be assigned are horror, mockumentary, comedy, romance or film noir.
Screening
Shortlisted films will be screened at the HELP Film Festival on the 23rd of September 2011, upon which the best will be selected by a panel of judges, all of whom bear prominence in Malaysia’s filmmaking and media industry. Those who have been shortlisted will be duly informed via email and listed on the website.
A little bit more about the HELP Film Festival
The festival, a yearly affair organized by HELP University College, is built around intentions to cultivate an appreciation for the filming arts, whilst subsequently presenting opportunities to budding film talents where they may screen the fruits of their film-making endeavors.
Being a relatively young effort, the HELP Film Festivals of past have only featured the films of its students, however the year of 2011 marks the beginning of its foray into more ambitious pursuits. By being held in conjunction with the Triple Movie Challenge, this will be the first time the films of students from Malaysia’s other various universities will be screened alongside those of HELP’s. By using both the Triple Movie Challenge and the Help Film Festival as platforms, what we hope to accomplish is the opportunity to share our efforts with fellow peers, all of whom indulge in a passion for film.
